Osage for smoking

Any of you guys use Osage shavings for smoking fish or meat, I'm getting,ready to smoke some more salmon and have a lots laying around, thanks bub

There might be some health risk.. its purty noxious.. I have grilled with it after its burnt clear down to coals... Brian

I for one think it smells awesome when it burns, very rich and pleasant to me personally. But I have also heard like erc it is one of those woods that you are not supposed to smoke with, maybe because of the resins/oils in it might be bad for you?

Ok guys yuk it up :) I thought I saw someone post one time that they used it in their bbq, guess I was wrong :laugh:

I've been breathing osage in smoke and sawdust form for 34 years now  ;D
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

I use Osage for the heat source for the smoker (Let it burn down to coals)  but prefer Pecan for the smoke.

Others have said they used it for smoking but my findings is it is about like smoking over a sappy pine board, not a good taste.

Amen to that, id cough my head off if I smoked osage. Im sure of it!

Your right Mullet there's some weirdos out on the left coast. Heck Granny Clampett move to california, smoked some possom and thought she saw a giant mouse when Elly Mae brought home a kangaroo. Watch what you smoke Bub. ;)

Don't know about Cali Bubb but in BC we have a weed tree as we refer to it, its Alder not as good as Hickory for smoking but next best thing.  I have have cooked Pork Chops on the open fire using alder wood and raw leaves from the bush.  Last time I cooked some Ribs and I'll tell you I have never had meat taste so good in my life.  8) :o 8) :o 8) :o 8) :o

IMHO there is no substitute for open fire cooking..... 8)
