maple on maple r/d
« on: March 10, 2014, 04:47:03 pm »
this was an experiment, first of a new form, 66" ttt and about 50# @ 29", smooth and fast but I think I need to shorten the outers on the next one, you r/d guys let me know about that, I layed it against the form today and each limb has about an inch of set from the form, so all in all I guess it was a success  bison tips and tung oil and paste wax, hope ya like it bub

I took photos of my 66" R/D maple yesterday but having camera problems, I glued mine up using 4" blocks on the tips and a center block about 3" ,  I don't use blocks at mid limb.   At any rate it is much more pronounced than yours, it took roughly over 3/4" of set.
Hopefully will post pics very soon.

Hey, Bubster... I think it's bending too much right at the fades, even for a R/D design. JMHO.

adam that was the same thing I thought and paulsemp too, funny thing is I didn't touch the fades except to get the marks out of it, worked it mostly mid out, I think it should be wider to start and that may solve that, that being said these things are a bear to tiller for me, thank's for the comment i'm a big boy and it takes a lot for me to get all butt hurt

I don't know how those r/d bows are supposed to bend bub but thats a good looking bow to me, if its shooting nice and the profile doesn't change then I'd say you done good.  :-\   Nice work.

When you are bending it on the tillerng tree how does it look like it's bending? Are the fades bending too much , or is the full draw pic just fooling the eye? These are tricky buggers to tiller for sure.

I think it looks worse than it is, the fades don't work as hard as it looks, I think I need to re work the form and see what happens on the next it's only taken an inch of set

That's what I was thinking based on the unbraced pic. It already looked like it was bending right out of the fades. Regardless of it's deceptive ways , ....... how does it shoot? It's not all about the looks after all ;) If it's barely working in the fades and is bending smoothly out the rest of the limb, is it not a well tillered bow?  The reflex is likely doing it's job   and the deflex  should be taking some stress off . I'm guessing it draws very smooth and releases the arrow in a like fashion . Looking forward to the next  off of the modified form!

Lostarrow, it's fast smooth and quiet in the hand, don't know what else you want
