What a great idea! I can  see it now. "Hon, do you care if I buy a backhoe and buldozer for splitting my bow wood?" She has let me buy my toys but I don't think this would go over well. :) Jawge

HA!  I was just thinking about this post the other day when I saw the city crew taking down some large cottonwood trees.  I stopped because I thought they might drop a really straight elm next to it, but no joy.

  I wish you would have posted this last week, the city had set aside 6 big chinese elm logs for me, they were close to 1,000# each. I had no way to get them out fast enough and they had to cut them up. They had a back hoe on site they would have probably would have split them for me if I had thought about it.

Hand split some Sweetgum this weekend.  My back wishes there had been a backhoe around to use in this fashion!  I still have one more, (the biggest one!) to split but I'm affraid I'll run out of wedges...
