Red Osage?

I was removing the bark and sapwood on one of my Osage staves and this what the first ring of heart wood looks like.

Alot of my Mo. osage has red streaks in it and it has been great stuff! But I got to admit I've never seen a stave with that much in it. I'd say your lucky man  ;)... Brian

I've seen streaks in the other staves but not the whole thing like this.

Likely due to minerals in the soil. Other than bacteria, that's what usually causes streaks of colour in wood.

It's a really beautiful color. And to add to it, it's snakey. But it has some twist. Bubby is getting the sister stave.
