So, Ryan - How's this bow holding up?  I thought about it today while posting on the OSAGE IS WORTH IT thread and thought to ask...  (I just couldn't resist resurrecting this one!)

That's really cool. I was at lowes like 30 min ago looking at boards and wondered if poplar would make a decent backing for an oak board bow. I think the contrast would be pretty anyway.

  The last one I made was about the same demesions as yours. I got it out to 36" draw and it never broke. Took about 4" set. Poplar can make some real fast bows. A buddy of mine had a sinew backed poplar he shot for about 8 years at 3 d shoots. It was a great shooter.

It must have been a very poplar bow the way everyone wanted to shoot it!

As for the willow bow, my tattoo slinging buddy MIkey built his first ever bow out of peachleaf willow (Salix amygdaloides)....a beaver cut tree, no less.  Pulls almost 50 lbs at 26", and has taken about 2" of set.  Mind you, it shoots a 500 grain arrow at about 130 fps. But it shoots and has not broken after thousands of arrows.

I have one I heat treated just to practice the process.  I put about 3" of reflex into it and im waiting for it to rehydrate (which probably won't happen in my house ).  I will try short stringing it non monday. Ill post a couple pics at some point.  Its 69" ntn and 2 1/4" at the fades with a semipyramid taper to 1/2" nocks. I cant remember what I did for the handle...4 1/2" maybe  ???.
