A reflection

I had a "zen" moment the other day....
I am pretty new to this after all but i think many will recognize it.
I always plan elaborate bows (even if i dont build them) with fancy wood and bold recurves.
Then you see a simple stick and a string executed perfectly with immaculate finish and realize that is what matters in the end.  :o

Btw i will still try the complicared builds  >:D
Oh and it was pinecones plum that did it  :)

My last several have been simple straight bows. I think after building a few hundred a fella starts to realize if he close his eyes they all shoot the same!

Sums it up for me as well.  My 2 favorites (today) are pretty straight no frills.  Center of the target accurate and effortless to shoot.  (But oh those sweet curves on Pearl Drums static recurves.  May change my mind tomorrow.  And then back again.)

i havent built a ton of bows..but...from the beginning  to today...i realize that i love utilitarian bows..nothing super fancy ..it just has to wrk well.

I like the statics just because I can shorten them and get my draw still. I like simplicity as well. Just love the hooks

I had that same moment of perfect clarity several years ago.  It came pretty late in the game, but no harm done.

Wish I had gotten that same moment of perfect clarity about before I met my ex!  It came too late in the game!  LOL. I do hope she is happier now.

I'm glad I could provide a moment of clarity for you:)

Truth is, I had actually failed miserably on a bow I thought was destined for greatness...sadly my cocky attitude and ignorance showed through, and the bow looked great and shot ......ok I guess. And developed stress frets. I was ignoring the wood, and what it wanted to do.
Now that bow is just something to look at and has no purpose which really bummed me out. Then I came across that plum and I had plans to recurve and make it all kinds if fancy, then my moment of clarity arrived...why mess with something that already perfectly fine?
Bows have a way of humbling a man.

Stick with the basics until you have them wired.
Then the fancy designs will make sense.
A well made reflex/deflex bow has something that a straight stick can't have. The fancy designs have their place but it comes down to personal preference in the end.
