Finally Jordo! Now I can stop feeling sorry for your butt. Since that's all you have? Id suggest peeling and sealing the whole batch. If you don't, almost half with develop laminar cracks and the ends will check deeper. Peel and seal now and your chances of using every stick of it are good. I ruined 25% of my stash by not peeling and sealing.

Chainsaw next time unless this was a covert haul ;D  be careful splitting the small stuff too much before it's had a chance to dry, it'll corkscrew on you and make straightening difficult. Nice haul!

Nice haul! Looks like I shoulda sent ya 2 drawknives, lol.. If you split them smaller ones right away put them back to back and flip them 180* from each other and wrap them together with some kinda rope. It seems to help me with the warping 😉... Brian

For covert operations a two man, sharp crosscut saw is the way to go. Quieter than chopping and chopping is quieter than a chainsaw. Sawing also gives good flat ends.

Looks like you left some 36 inch pieces that would make nice billets also. Take a yardstick with you to get your cuts.

I'm with Paul. Cut some of those smaller suckers. They can  make very nice bows.

Yup. My rule with cutting osage is cut now ask questions later >:D. Those limbs can take serious crown and preform,  or leave sapwood or decrown. Plus limb bows have a cool primitive look to them.

Pearl, koan is sending me a drawknife Tuesday so I'll be able to make a bench vice in the mean time. 

We had to haul all of this 1/2 mile back to the car without any ropes or anything to help so we only the big stuff two at a time, before splitting. Next time I'm making some type of carrying device.

You might consider cutting some long Straight limbs.
Make yourself a couple Travois to haul out the big stuff.
Then use the Travois poles for bow wood too...

Nice Primitive Haul...

If you wanna go more Primitive next time y'all could use Stone Axes...   >:D

I like to saw those poles in half, lengthwise and bind them back together with small spacers between the 2 halves so they get good air circulation. I prefer to add controlled reflex later instead of dealing with the reflex the staves will take when cut in half.
