Ultimate Bend Test/Caption Contest
« on: February 15, 2014, 10:33:22 am »
I thought you guys might appreciate this epic bend test on a shagbark hickory that happened when a tree felling went the wrong direction.  The house in question was being demolished so no worries  >:D  The uncut section of the tree that refused to break was only about 6" thick.  Instead it split straight up the tree, and made about an 80 degree bend in a 3' radius.  I think these will turn out to be some pretty good staves when they are seasoned.  I'll be going back this spring to clear some hackberry off the adjacent lot.

lets see the captions! Del is on the board

I wanna know how much set that wet hickory took.

My thought exactly, I only took staves from the unbent sections of the trunk.

Its got a little twist to it.  ;D

Yeah I will have some bending in my future if I start one of these staves, worst case I'll have some hickory to throw in the smoker  :)
