At Least it's archery (more pics of bow added)
« on: February 09, 2014, 06:41:52 pm »
So i know im probabably going to get a little hate from the truly trad guys on here but i made my friends sister a little PVC flatbow with mollgabet style-ish tips where i flatened it the other way as it's not wood so ive posted it here. im thinking about making a one piece wooden one but will see how it goes.

P.S it's very hard too source the right PVC for bows almost as hard as sourcing yew :o

EDIT: here are some more pics of the bow.

FD except thats about a 35" arrow and i was just seeing how far back it would go.

i painted the back a nice blue

here you can see the tip design (kinda)

for the belly i painted a first coat of light blue then placed real leaves over it and then sprayed the dark blue around that. to give it a camo type look, what do you think?

thanks for looking guys  ;)

Looks good PVC makes a decent bow for sure. Didn't you post this a few months ago though?

that's what I was thinking, that I had seen that pic before, good on you getting her into bows though

I like her pinch grip. Hope that hair in front of her shoulder doesn't wined up in the string. Oh..I didn't see the last post if there was one, but you talk about the tips but they are not in the pic? you got a pic of them?

Maybe the UK is different but PVC can be found at any hardware store around here.
I see nothing wrong with a PVC bow but I'll admit I laughed when I saw the thread title and the author before I clicked on it. I was preparing for the flames.

We have some cheap commen pvc but it burns easily and if you flatten it ,it just folds and then re heating it doesn't fix it by expanding it. I found this in a skip but noticed it was different. And found it worked haven't found a piece since

pvc is great for starting because it will take more abuse and didnt take nearly as much effort as making a wooden bow. For hunting though it is a completely different story.

No hate here, I think PVC bows are cool, and that looks like a fine bow you made. And next thing you know, the little one shooting it will be wanting to make one herself,  :) Very cool.
"The way of heaven is like the bending of a bow-
the upper part is pressed down,
the lower part is raised up,
the part that has too much is reduced,
the part that has too little is increased."
