Worm damage question
« on: February 09, 2014, 01:37:50 pm »
I have a osage stave that has some minor worm damage in the working section of the limb. It's 1/8"x1/4" and all the way thru the stave from front to back. So is this stave going to need to be backed or will it be okay? I can always sinew it I guess.

You might be able to put in a "Dutchman plug"  and leave that area a little stiff or fill the hole with fine saw dust and super glue. You should do the latter in sessions to eliminate voids. I think I'd cover the hole in the belly(back?) with masking tape first then work up to the back(front?).

Like I said, go slowly and build it up in stages. Look out for the fumes from the super glue as you go.
