Osage recurve for Konny 40/28 (No. 36)
« on: February 02, 2014, 03:14:09 pm »
This bow goes to a good guy for a 60. birthday present.

(ALL THE BEST TO YOU – KONNY!)

I found a nice piece of flickered Osage in my pile, kinda natural camo. The stave needed a lot of corrections , twist and sideways. The recurves are steam bent.
A nice pair of cow horn overlays were put on. They have a 3 d effect, nearly transparent, a bit like mother of pearl. Never saw this before (hard to see in the pics). The upper comes wit an additional groove, as the new owner is used to use a stringer.
Arrow pass is an inlay of glue+earth pigments.

Length 61“ ntn
brace 6½“
40#/28“

Gorgeous wood, beautiful work, fantastic looking bow.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Another very nice, well tillered bow Simon. I love the mottled osage and the cow horn tip overlays.

Beautiful profiles.  The unbraced is really nice especially with all that bend midlimb.  Very nice Sir!

Nice bow like those curves..
Did the Native Americans think about all this that much or just do it?

Excellent bow Simon! I love that braced profile and drawn profile. Ive been kicking around a working recurve idea and you just nudged me over the edge. I need to get started soon!

Another fine one Simon. I really like the shape of the recurves. What did you use to get that radius? That is the sweetest recurve shape I've seen.
