*Puny* black locust 35# @ 26"

Sp I was chasing rings and got this really big shaving. It looked to me like if I really wanted I could make it into a bow.

I really wanted >:D

Tillering took about an hour, maybe and hour and fifteen minutes. Simple one-sided knocks, one natural flipped tip and one induced, very gentle heat treating (didn't want to stress everything with too much weight). So far, fifty arrows in, it's shooting arrows that are way too heavy with respectable velocity, no chrisaling, and about an inch and a half of set.

Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Seen alot of nice bows made from shaved scraps.proof you dont need a prime stave to make a shootable bow.nicely done.

That's impressive!
"The bow is the old first lyre,
the mono chord, the initial rune of fine art
The humanities grew out from archery as a flower from a seed
No sooner did the soft, sweet note of the bow-string charm the ear of genius than music was born, and from music came poetry and painting and..." Maurice Thompso

Thanks guys!
It amazes me what wood can do when you don't ask for a miracle, just its best.

Half eye, the problem is that I really stink at making arrows ;)

Ohma2, so far I've accidentally peeled two short bows off the backs of larger ones. I need to make this a habit!

I just measured it. Forty three inches tip to tip, forty two knock to knock.

I maintain my definition of puny ;)

Very nice little bow there! Good eye for the unwasted sliver of wood ;)

So far I not only suck at arrow making, I have yet to do it and I gotta get with it soon.
