semi-rotted, checked, knotty osage
« on: January 30, 2014, 10:38:14 pm »
so I have a bow in my possession made of orange gold...
its just a wee bit short.
45" NTN.  Upper limb has nearly 2" of deflex. Bottom limb had 1" reflex, which was removed with heat to 1/2 inch deflex.
It was made from a stave under 3" in diameter.
That had sat in a creek for nearly 10 years.
stiff handle.
20" draw- almost 50#.
I love this thing.
It is one heck of a rocket launcher.
It is def my new flight bow.
There were 2 deep checks down the back, which went in 4 rings.
I just left them, as I had to take off the outer 3 rings... as if there was an outer ring... maybe of mud, algae, and moss....
lol

We're you thinking to post a few pix of this bow?  I'd love to see it...

1st one is unbraces,
2nd is braced, 3rd one is full draw. I really don't know how that piece of yellowish orange wood is taking it- I messed up twice chasing a ring, the piece of wood was around 2.5" diam after removal of dirt and rot... and it sat in a creek for so long......

Are these pictures supposed to lead us to the girly advertisements I got or is that just accidental squirrely?

Seems a little shady.

Aw dang!  I clicked on them pics and all I got were better views of the bows!
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Why'd you heat out the reflex ?
I like osage

No.
Those are ads.
I did not catch that until Mr. Pat B PM'd me about it.

Why'd you heat out the reflex ?
Because I screwed up chasing the ring smack in the middle of mid-limb.
I was like... I want a lot of draw out of a little piece of wood.
So I decided that I would have a bow instead of firewood.
Plus it would be a real stinker if my first osage bow broke.
I do have another stave... the sister stave... with a TON of reflex.
:)
