Possible alternative straightening method for bamboo shafts
« on: January 19, 2014, 12:12:54 pm »
Ok all, love bamboo arrow shafts but have been pondering what I could do to staighten them better and quicker and a thought occurred to me. If air hoses and jigs can be used in bow forms could something similar be used on a hot, pliant bamboo or cane shaft?and might said arrow form cause the nodes to flatten a bit as well?  Am very curios to hear thoughts and ideas. Let's do a little brainstorming!

I was thinking on this also. I have old chain link fence post I thought maybe tie my bamboo or cane to post real tight all the way down the shaft.then take my heat gun and stick it down the post and let the inside of post heat upreal hot. Would something like this work?
Did the Native Americans think about all this that much or just do it?

Straightening works best when you bend the wood past the centerline in the opposite direction of the bend.  Clamping or pressing the wood against something straight will only partially straighten it.

Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.
