How big of a yew branch?(stave pix)

How big of a branch does it take to make a bow? I found some large bushes here in NY. Some 3" or more. I dot know what I'll be able to cut. But looking for a base diameter.

Blaflair2, I just started making match sticks out of a limb that is 1 3/4" on the big end and 1 1/4 on the small end. definitely cut anything in the 3inch range. Ed

Ornamental Bushes can get pretty branchy, keep an eye out for longer stretches with fewer branches.

These have like 5-6' sections with like no branches! After I cut how do I season? Bark on ends sealed or take off bark and seal back?

Well I got 4 branches, so far! All about 5' long one a little shorter. Take the bark off and seal ends or leave bark?

I am no yew specialist but I would at least split them in half so the moisture can escape from the log some way. Dean

These aren't big enough to split. I'll choose what side I want as the back and probly carve down the belly to expose some wood.
