Osage bow finished. Its a bit racy folks.

So here she is all tarted up, maybe a little too much but hey its how it turned out. I may replace the grip yet as i am not too keen on the finish, first time I have used this and maybe my last. Back faberings dye i think.

She is late 50`s at about 27. 60 inches ntn, black raw silk backing for almost all of the limb whilst just showing a little flesh near the tips. Buffalo horn overlays and silk thread bindings. I may super-glue coat the bindings to stop the string moving them when stringing the bow.
The nocks are 3/8th wide and just over half inch at the base of the recurves. I think they could have been thinner but I would have struggled to keep the string on them with the limb twist. It had about an inch and a half of deflex in the stave and took about an inch of set. This is all lost with the recurves. I would have usually heated all of this out shape and temper but wanted to experience osage without too much interference. Plus this profile like my last seems to make for a sweet shooter.

Shoots very fast and hard, so much so I have resorted to using two bales of hay back to back to stop the arrows.

The bow turned out very well, nice job.  I may have missed it in your other post but what was your reason for the silk backing?  Just reinforcement?  Very nice job on the finishing and overlays.  Very nice bow!

There were just some orrible looking drying checks on the back. They were not deep but just looked ugly.

This looks like a sweet bow. I think she's dressed up just right.  ;)
 The only osage bow I have had fret(except for one unseasoned osage bow) was backed with raw silk. I hope that was just a fluke.

Nice bow mate! As this is your first Osage are you going to keep it? I would if I were you - yellow wood like that seems really rare over here 8)

Osage is getting a little bit more common up north.....I've got a few growing now  ;) probably going to be 20 years or something before they are ready but I've got one that is really straight, lots of cuttings will be coming off that tree over the years!
