help on first bow

i glued my backing to my red oak and added a bit of reflex. ive let it dry but when i tried bending the bow back i heard some crackling. im assuming this is the glue. is this normal? should i keep bending?

did you get all the extra glue cleaned up on the stave, I do a fair amount of glue ups and never hear any cracking

no. havent cleaned up and of the glue yet. thats probably what it was.

Check for a lifted splinter. Wipe a cotton ball along the bow, both directions and if there is a splinter it will snag the cotton ball.

I've been tempted many a time to bend a bow after glue up….and before I rounded the edges…and not had good results, hopefully it's not a splinter but I've never heard the glue crack myself either.  Sounds like a good combo, I'm gonna try a white oak backed maple soon.

With TB glues, you should let the joint cure for 24 hours before stressing it, as per the manufacturers instructions.

Bubbles, seems like that's where the idea popped in my head from was one of your posts.  I look at so many here it's all a blur but then I 'think' of things to do…haha so many awesome artists on here it's good inspirado eh?  Also, Ricky and Julian are out of jail again  >:D

I like to go minimum 24 when Glueing in reflex, most of the time I go longer.  And put the extra effort in to make the glue line flawless. That glue joint is under a lot of stress! 

@ peacebow - I don't think it was me who posted that. I'm just finishing up my first with that wood combo. I really likehow it looks.
