What to buy for my father for Christmas?
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:31:14 am »
Hello, this is my first post.  Long story short my father has been into primitive archery for 10-15 years now, I was hoping to get him something he hasn't got yet, or something he might need more of.

Basically his weekend projects, to the dismay of his wife, consists of working on longbows...He has quite a collection now, but never sells them.

I'm not sure what exactly I could get him to make his 'piddlin'  and 'whittlin' more enjoyable.  He goes to a few shoots a year and always comes back with some new technique or tool...I think he has most every hand tool, at least the basics, what would you guys suggest?

I really don't know how to ask the question as you can tell.  Any help would be greatly appreciated...we're talking $100 or less...even if there is some badass glue he hasn't heard of or certain hides for backers...I don't know but thank you in advance.

Don't know. You could sneak in a pic of his work area and might give someone with more experience and idea.

I was thinking maybe snake skins...I guess as far as tools go, there can't be that many new tools in the field of primitive archery. No offense?  A picture wouldn't work as he is 3 hours away..

Thanks!

Howdy Guyy,

Not sure what to get him?

- Primitive Archer magazine subscription,

- gift certificate from 3River's Archery,

- a new target of some sort (Deer, Turkey, Ball Target, etc.) or to replace one that's worn out.

- or the gift of time; offer to help him with a project or ask him to teach you to make a bow.

Some exotic or woods he normally wouldn't get or some exotic leather for handles. I am sure most of us would be super happy if we got either

- gift certificate from 3River's Archery,

I didn't even know they had these, but if I was your dad, and you got me one of these, you would win the best son of the year award for sure!

Does your father hunt with his primitive bows? Does he make his own arrows?
