Dakota's Bow

  I originaly started this bow for the 2013 bow trade but got in too much of a hurry and it ended up whip tillered with not enough weight left to correct it. I decided to leave it alone and maybe hunt with it myself but was never happy with it. A friend of my wifes asked me to make a bow for her son Dakota for christmas, so i retillered this one for him. It dropped from 54# @ 28" to 47# @ 28". Its Osage 59" ntn. Overlays are american bison. Handle wrap is beaver tail. Stained with several alternating coats of steel wool disolved in distilled vinegar followed by strong black tea. Finished with tru oil.










I also thought some of you might like to see the simple bow stringer im sending with it.

Nice bow like the way the stain looks did you tan the beaver tail or is it dried.

It's just dried. Have heard that beaver tail is hard to tan so i have never tried.

Nicely done Turtle. Looks like a solid hunting bow to me, he should love that.

Cool bow. How much set did it take? I would think whip tillering it would make it take a bit of set.

Not often do I feel jealous of a bow recipient, but I really would love that bow.... Good grief man that is a thing of beauty.

It started out with 2 1/2" of reflex ended at around 1/2 to 3/4 string follow.

I just put a pad of fine wool in a pint jar and filled it up with white distilled vinegar. Put the lid on and let it sit for a couple of weeks and the wool will disolve. And no we havnt got that tree down yet but its first on my list when the sap starts flowing.
