simple hickory bow

Here's a really straightforward hickory bow (ignore the ocean spray bow). If done right this bow takes about two to three hours to complete (depending on reflexing techniques). I'm practicing putting up pics - these are a bit fuzzy.

I like both of them...would like to see a pic of the hickory bow from the back profile....darn nice table also.....I love wood!

I should say two to three hours not including waiting for the epoxy to cure on the handle laminate

Shelves are for books!  >:D   Kidding aside, thats a great looking bow with real nice tiller and if you can do that in just a few hours your way ahead of me in bow building skills. Nice work Danlaw.

Thanks guys! I'm not ahead of you Badly Bent, I just built myself a jig for the table saw! I make quite a few of these so though I can hammer this out super quick, Ive put in my dues with hours of failure. The tips are bent and tempered. I forget if I toasted the whole belly on this one or not; I think I didn't.

Here's the ocean spray drawn. It has a bit of a flat spot on the bottom limb as I had to leave wood around a particularily knotty spot. 57# @ 28"

I made a simple tapering jig (side profile) - no laminations, just one piece of clear hickory.
I like these nocks as they are fast to make (I use a small rectangular rasp from lee valley that is just the right width so I never have to measure). I put two nocks in so I never need a fancy stringer, just a larger bow string. Sometimes I put three nocks in to vary the poundage for people who are just starting out. There are fancier bows for sure, but I am going for ultra efficient design on this one.

And if done my way it would only take a few weeks longer.  ;D and be half as nice.
