Ash molly
« on: December 13, 2013, 01:31:21 pm »
Yup,its pun time again...Another piece of ash  ;)
At the last bbq of the season some of my buddies and gf's wanted to try some shooting....
To make a long story short 50#+ is a lot to handle for a newbie and that was all i had since i given away all the lighter ones. So im going to make a couple of "guestbows" that im keeping. this is the first.
Ash Molly 62" ntn 41#@28"  2"wide heattreated working limbs,i also tried simsons horn reinforced tips on this one.

I will thin the levers some more i guess ,but im generally happy with it.Thanks for looking.

Nice bow, I like that stain job a lot. Good work.

I really like that one!   Good work!  I like the way you did the fades and lever fades.....very cool.
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

This bow became a "testbench" as i will keep it it doesnt matter how it looks :)
The stain on the belly is a dark grey over the toasted wood and rubbed with 000 steelwool until i got the tone i wanted.
The back have cambium remains all over. First i stained it with a dark oakstain that i rubbed down uneven.
After that i used a heavily thinned green acrylic paint that i applied with a rag so it only stuck to the "high"areas.
Lastly i used black leatherdye (very small amount) on a spunge and "drybrushed" with light hand so it stuck to the edges of the high areas.
Tungoil all over for protection.

Thanks all,it feels nice when ppl whos work you admire say "well done"  ;D
The bow is far from perfect but it shoots hard and feels fast for the weight.
Im also happy with the "woodland camo", that was just an experiment.
Just gonna shoot it some more and make some minor tweaks before i call it a bow and start the next one.
