I'm guessing the 3/4" is at the fades? Just by the looks of that nice thickness taper you got (and my limited familiarity with yew I've used), you should be getting enough floor tillered bend on those limbs to have at least a long string on it. I'd tiller it with a string a bit (at least check the bend) before thinning it very much more...

I found the problem of why that one limb was stiff. One was good for long string and the other was stiff. I measured it and I accidentally marked it a little bit thicker on the other limb. I scraped it down and now I am on to long string. I am going to cut the grooves in and then I will post pics of that.

Just cut in grooves and got the taper pretty symmetrical from .75" at fades to .5" at tips. Got the long string out and it looks like that one limb is a little stiff so I will work on that and post pics tomorrow.

Lookin good but when marking out i would use a pencil and a sharp one. rather than a marker. it makes your work alot more acurate. can't wait to see a full draw. and also i would say cut your own wood, then you can't blame anyone but yourself ;) ;D although i also cut some yew in june/july and im not sure it's seasoned  :o

slayer you also cut some yew, that wasn't yew ::), you know back when you were a squirrel

What I first thought was yew was cherry, and rotten wood at that. But I've found yrw in a local church yard.

So I recurved it so it is like that deflex recurve pearly made, I have tillered a little and almost have it to low brace, i re did the backing because I thought it was a little sketchy being bent that many times, and it looks awesome. I am going to put elk or bison horn riser spikes, I will add bison on the tips an debating on putting osage or antler on top of the bison horn. What should I do? This will be put on after tillering. This will hopefully be my first legit recurve as the others have been flipped tips bows but we will see what it turns into. It is still pretty heavy. School Christmas break starts this Saturday so I will get this done within there to new year's.
