Thought this might interest some. Broil  till toasty then hit with tung oil while scorching hot and you get a nice gentle reflex.

It bends by itself, by expansion, and then the oil locks it in?

My wife loves me. Any more than one at a time bends the rack too much, then not so much love...

Do you get scorching from the rack at all?

Sometimes there's a small mark on the back but it disappears with light sanding. I've put a thin piece of wood in between as well (adds to the reflex too). When I put on a class this is optional homework. I thought it up because I wanted an ultra simple, super accessible technique anyone can do at home. It's kindof fun I think. Thought folks here might get a kick out of it.

About how long do you leave it in there? You just put the tung oil on the belly side of the tip?

Cool idea. Unfortunately the layout of my kitchen wouldn't allow for a bow length in front of the stove due to the island.

My wife always tells me other women would never stand for this stuff. If you preheat the broiler it takes about seven - ten minutes a tip (depending on which rack height you use). I just go by the color of the wood - should be toasted but certainly not too dark. Tung oil goes on the whole reflexed portion. This is hickory so it smells great. I often toast the whole belly on hickory as the bows take less set and get quite a bit stiffer. I do it over the top burner though, when nobody else is home.
