Very interesting Steve! Good to see the local media broadcasting that.

The best part?  The newscasters never once made a crack about it.  Nobody tried to be funny or derogatory about it.  You gotta be pleased with that report.  Nicely done!

He was very interested and amazed at what we were doing. It was great PR.  By the way. I was the one using the wooden hammer and speaking about  always being a different material or technique to learn.

Im happy you went above ad beyond bringing forth the local tough grade rock, the stuff not many know or have used but has been throughout stonege times.  Congrats u and your guild.

Time, dedication, cuts, tons of broken rock, a wife, and perhaps a few girlfriends are some of what it takes in becoming a skilled flint knapper!!!

I was just getting started when they shot the sequence of me  and all that dust. Most of it was rolling off my pad. But it is a concern of mine, and I suggested we have some different programs like An artifact ID day and How wampum was made or a demo about Flake Over Grind for the winter months. This would be better for not creating so  much dust in there for a couple months. We usually knap outside at one of the Historic Preservations Barns. But it is nice to get together once a month.

Yup, the only reason I said anything is because I met a guy at a shoot last summer who had knapped a lot inside. His wife would bust him because the TV screen static would pick up the dust and she'd know he had been knapping in the house again, he has some fairly serious lung issues now after 16 years of indoor knapping. He does abrade like a madman thought. You had some good ideas for the winter months. Maybe even hafting methods and arrow/spear/atlatl dart making with your stone points in the winter. Have fun, dpg
