Old-time tipi materials

Since my last post took a turn toward tipis, I thought I would start another thread that better fit the subject line. Bob had asked about beds, so this is one set up at the Field Museum so you can see how the forked sticks are used to raise the bed off of the ground. Also, I am posting a couple of pictures of old original beds.

Been waiting on you to post some of this stuff.  Bring it on, I never get tired of lookin at it.  Let's see some of those beaded bags, and parfleche, and cylinders and quivers and.....The coolest part of all this is the same as with the bows.  It's one thing to make a wall hanger that just looks pretty in repose.  But making it, dragging it thru the brush before loosing an arrow with it and bringing home dinner, that's just hard to beat.  Using all of this stuff for it's intended purpose, almost mystical.

Well, these are somewhat tipi related. I have quite a few old-time Indian games that I've made and used. We don't get snow very often, so there are some winter games that I don't get to mess with very often. We had ice with a light coating of snow this week. Here are a few picture of my son and I sledding with a buffalo rib sled and throwing snow sliders.

Cool stuff. To bad the ice wil soon melt and you teachers will have to get back to work...for what, a day or 2 before Xmas break?  Yeah, I'm jealous.

Aw man... you get a spring break??  I gotta teach somewhere else.  We hardly get ice and snow days and we are solid white with the colds stuff up here in WI.  :D :D :D

Thanks guys. We are on day five of ice, but it is supposed to thaw today. Ice was so slick this morning that I got to try out my whipping top. All of these are Cheyenne style toys, but they were used by most plains tribes.
