Do you think this will work?
« on: November 27, 2013, 07:42:55 pm »
I found a nice Ocean Spray stick today but it is only 5' long. It is 2'' at the skinny end and 3" at the fat end. So I bandsawed it lengthwise and left a lump on each end. Now I have two roughed out billets for a splice or a TD. Seem like a good idea??
Sorry for the crummy pictures.

go for it, there is a nice build a long on the how to page for o.s.
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

Now as long as it doesn't check to badly I only have to wait 6-12 months.

If you can (and haven't already) I strongly recommend roughing out the bow so that you get to or preferably just past the pithy part. I've never had problems with checks in OS and I believe that its because I get rid of the spot where cracks seem to originate - the pith. Also, I've got some OS billets that I'm going to try and make into a rawhide-scarf take down bow, so I'll let you know how that goes  ::)
