Big Osage down
« on: November 16, 2013, 05:57:10 pm »
I went out gathering wood today. Found a nice straight osage tree that had fallen over. The butt cut was about 12-14" for six feet, then forked into two 8" branches. I ended up getting 4 logs out of it. Nice rings in all of them too. I split out 16 staves and a couple of billets. Some were clean, some had swoops and swirls here and there, and a couple were down right snakey on one end. Good haul for sure.

I now have about 30 staves and 6 billets to debark :o. Fun fun. It's good to have a stash started!

I could chase those rings in the dark, dead drunk, and one hand tied behind my back! Dang!  Nice haul.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Nice haul Greg.  Looks like some nice ring ratio.  And don't listen to Boardhawk.  That tree looks big to me.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Yummy! Aint none better than yellow wood.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

There is one down there where I cut this that three grown men couldn't reach around. I wanted no part of it!! My little chainsaw was already whipped cutting a 14" tree ::). I'll get a pic of the big tree next time. Sorry to disappoint you Chicken Hawk. Just think how long it'll take me to make bows outta them given my breakneck speed!! ;D
