Found - Agate arrowhead
« on: November 11, 2013, 02:13:44 am »
Growing up in the southern Interior of BC, I found a ton of arrowheads, scrapers, and knives, all made out of black basalt.  Found 2 or 3 points in red and green jasper.  Never found anything like this.  My five year old girl found this, must take after me, eagle-eyes finding stuff.

Wow.  Nice find!  Looks like a pretty good sized point.  Is it as thick as it looks?  Do you know what type it is?
Any critter tastes good with enough butter on it.

How to Cook It?  200° for 24hrs then 275° to 500° for 4hrs (depending on type), Cool for 12hr

Its pretty chunky through the middle relative to its size, like 5/16th of an inch thick, probably due to the  void in the agate.  My little girl found it in 4 inches of water, at the edge of a lake in our area.
No idea at the age of it, or its type.  Not sure of why anyone would try agate  when the Arrowstone Mountain black basalt quarry was less than a days walk away......

Neat find! As for why they would try it...if you lived in an area where you always used the same stuff wouldn't you be excited at the chance to use something different too?
