i have been busy, i had nothing to do all weekend so i started on a piece of Persimmon. and much to suprise, the unlikely piece turned into a very nice little character bush bow.
its 54 inches and draws about 58ish pounds at 24.5 inches. its a short draw bow, i had it down to 26in. but i dont want to overstress the limbs.
its a sweet little shooter. it has good speed and a smooth draw and little- no handshock. it started with a little reflex and lost it in tillering, but holds shape well since its so short.
it has several knots and twists as most persimmon does.
The bottom limb has a distinct twist about 3\4 of the way down, but then straightens back out at the tip, (the full draw picture shows it well.)
The color is all natural to the wood, the almost black back is the natural color as well. when cut in the spring it seems to draw to pigments to the surface during dry time. it has beautiful grain with a greyish green color in some spots and a tannish color in others. since its a primitive looking bow with the knots\twists, i decided not to incorporate any tip overlays.Instead, i just rounded and smoothed them to enjoy the natural grain and dark green- black back. though if people think overlays might add to it, i may consider them still.
i am very happy with this bow. Despite being somewhat difficult to work, i really enjoy working with persimmon. the colors and strength of the wood is amazing. if you have access to persimmon, i suggest trying it. thanks for looking- Ryan
