A bow named Wyrm
« on: November 03, 2013, 08:54:09 pm »
Finished my shagbark hickory recurve finally! Something about a two year old makes it hard to get things done... even if they are helping! This bow was one experiment after another. It has growth rings cut through, tooling marks, burned belly, and a few other less desirable aspects to it. I left inner bark on for a little natural camo. The tips are oak from a barn beam over 100 years old, and carved into a tail shape on the lower limb and a dragon head on the upper limb with burned in details. my lack of skill in the small carving and burning department is pretty abysmal. I also burned wings on the sides of the handle. The sad site of them makes me think a buckskin handle is coming soon! Stained with a mixture of special walnut and gunstock red, this 69" t2t when strung 50# @ 28" bow should make plenty of meat!

Be brutal guys, this beefy crude curvey lady seems to be able to take anything Ive thrown at her!

wow... between my low ceilings and the forum stretching out the pic it looks like a lop sided turd!

Is it just my iphone that makes it look like this?

I like it!  I like all the tool marks, dents and etc.  Looks cool.
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

Man...I feel like a heel now. :-[  I coulda waited.  My apologies to her.(and you, cause you'll inevitably pay for that) All that aside, that looks really good!  If you sort of block out the background it looks spot on!  Nicely done sir!  Josh

I love old barn wood - that's a fabulous bow you've made!

Great looking bow there Neo!! I love a bow with some character, and I don't mean snakey. I like those too, but I mean with some bumps, nicks, scratches, and all that good stuff.

Looks great from here. And I popped my neck trying to tilt my head for the full draw pick. Man that was needed and felt good. ;D
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

Nice bow with a good tiller. That's key. Good job.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.
