Sorry to shift direction here but why are "Buchanan dips" named after James Buchanan? I had heard the term before but this is the first time I have seen the James Buchanan reference.

Buchanan popularized the use of dips in a bows but he certainly wasn't the originator.
 Similar to "Perry" reflex.

Working the limb into near-handle requires finess in any type of bow and the limbs must be precisely timed to ward off handshock in such designs.

An odd and somewhat vague statement.
