Hi all,

I've been a member for a while and have learned allot from reading the posts here. Just want to say up front thanks too all, and its a privilege to part of this great site.

I finally built a bow that didn't break ! Whew, what a trial it was but I must say man I'm hooked for life!!!!  It's a 70"ntn hickory bow with red oak handle, leather arrow rest, pin nocks, and cloth "snake skin" backing. It draws 54 lbs at 28" and has about 1 1/2 string follow just after unbracing. My arrows weigh just under 600 gr. and it seems to flip em pretty good.

My family draws names for Christmas so I gave the bow to the persons name I drew. I am hoping it will bring him some luck with the moose and elk next season.

yes, hard to believe it your first one! ...right: addiction comes fast on the bowbuilding drug!!
tell us some more about the details; what's the dye (i suppose it's dye, right) what's the backing??
the tiller could have more bend on both limbs mid-limb, but it looks balanced.

Outstanding job on a first bow, and a mighty nice gesture to give it to a family member as a Christmas gift. Looking forward to seeing more of your bows in the future.

WOW, thanks for all the awesome replies!! I was real sceptical about posting my bow or Tawns bow I should say cause of all the absolute awesome bows evryone on here builds. It seems once you get the first one under yer belt the confidence level goes way up, especially with encouragement  like this.
Medicinewheel- the backing is just some kinda cloth with a snake print on it, I know its fake but I like it. Its hard to get that kinda stuff here in Alaska. The yellow stain is Minwax but its a mistake, I didn't like the original color I had so I mixed it with some I bought from the local hardware store and thats what I came up with. Then about 7 coats of tru oil.

Real nice bow, and its cool that you are sharing it.  Fits right in with any I've seen, better than most of mine.
