Hornbeam Stave

Hi I'm new to forum but i've been working on this stave about 2 months. back of the bow is damaged thats another story. so now im trying to fix it with new growth rings.

Is the second picture to the right there the back with the rings showing? I count nine rings down...and the stave doesn't look to thick...are you sure you'll have enough wood once down to that last ring? Are you sure that's hornbeam too? Doesn't really look like it from here?  ???

 If you insist on making this one go? Id suggest rawhide and titebond III glue. That is more than a violation and in the hardest working portion of the limb.

Is that hornbeam, or hophornbeam? The two are similar and commonly confused. I don't know much about hornbeam. But I've worked a fair bit with hophornbeam, and its growth rings are normally quite small and its not productive to chase a ring in my opinion. The first ring under the bark is the ticket. If that is badly violated I don't bother with the stave.

Set it in the corner and start the next one ,may be some day come back to it !
Koan , you must really be good with a planer to be able to flatten the back on a stave like this !!
