what I've been up to lately (pic heavy)
« on: October 23, 2013, 08:45:27 pm »
Haven't posted in a while, but I've been keeping up with my P.A. readings so I figured I'd share a few bows I have been working on....I know you will all hate me bc there are no F/D pics, but that's how it goes when you're on the lonely road.

After reading Beadman's (I think) post on his bison belly bow, I figured I'd try my hand at it:
Osage core pretillered b4 sinew and horn, ended up 42" ntn and 71# @24", came out a little heavier than I wanted but o well
ok I lied you get one sorta kinda fd pic, b4 adding the prairie rattler skin and buckskin handle, still need to add a horse hair tassel

Next was my first "hole in the limb" bow
66" osage 55#@28" for my compound shooting buddy who wanted a long bow for trying to wing shoot pheasants

Next is the bow I am currently trying to take a deer with
60" osage 57#@27"

tips b4 adding snake skins

next is a small "hole in the limb" bow that had a natural r/d profile for a compound shooting buddy that wanted a real bow to do some backyard shooting, this one really spits an arrow despite its lighter poundage
58" osage 46# @28"

next is my first actual "snake" bow...I don't think I could ever part with this thing
59" osage 63# @ 27"

last but not least, my first attempt at deflexing a handle, kind of modeled after some of the bow Blackhawk has put out
54" osage 53#@27" I think this one is going to take the title of my new hunting bow, it is a real good shooter

and finally, went out last weekend to try and wrangle some geese with the bow, but no flocks wanted to cooperate and didn't get any shots off

Great bows all Uncleduck, but my fav is that last one with the deflexed handle. Just something about the profile of that one that appeals to me. Would love to see the full draw pic on that one. I'm gonna have to try and build me one similar. I got the perfect stave drying for a r/d bow, just waitin to get some experience before I take on that project.

What are your dimensions on that one? Looks like the tips are thicker like a Molly?

Thanks for showin us your work.
Makin fine firewood, one bow at a time!

I really dig the nock tip that looks like a knapped arrowhead.  Wicked stuff.

Thanks for the compliments guys, it means a lot. I like to keep trying new things with each bow.

Stickman- that last one is around 1 5/8" wide limbs that taper to about 1" at the start of the "lever" fade and the tips are 3/8" the curves are static, so molle-ish I suppose. I may try reducing the mass of those a tad bit more to see if I can pick up some more speed, but it is a sweet shooter as-in now so maybe I'll just leave it?

Nice work!  Awesome bows!
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

To me it looks like you could take a touch more weight off the levers if you wanted. If it shoots good and isn't super slow I would leave it. But it's your choice  >:D
