Black Locust Bow w. pics

After having seen so many beautiful bows on this page, I hardly dare introducing my latest bow.
It is a black locust with bubinga handle and buffalo horn tip overlays.

The bow draws 52lb at 30".
N.t.N. it measures 70"
Width at fade out is 1,6 inches narrowing to 0,45 at the string grooves.

It draws nice and smooth and shoots nice groups (if itīs one of my better days).

I had heat treated the belly, so there is no stringfollow - in fact, there is a tiny bit of reflex left.

No whitetails or any other animals are in danger, because there is no bow hunting allowed in Germany.

I had put three coatings of line seed oil on, after the last coat has dried, I will put a couple of coatings of wax on.

beautiful tiller! and i love the contrasting handle and tip overlays. looks like it'll throw a good heavy arrow too you did a superb job on that one!

Yes, there is Black Locust growing here - but not a lot down south, where I live.
So I end up buying staves 

In fact, itīs not so easy to just go and cut down trees, because the prices for wood are quite high in general.

Fine bow and I like the looks of your work area, not too clean just like mine.

I heard a story in college chemistry, seems that back in the old days they would have a lot of elemental mercury around and a lot of chemists in the US were showing signs of poisoning while the German chemists rarely had trouble.  Seems the US chemists were more attentive to sweeping and keeping a neat lab than the Germans.  Supposedly the mercury could adhere to dust and this would prevent it from volatilizing and causing health problems.  No dust and more of it would become a gas and be breathed by the workers.  Ever since, I am hesitant to sweep up.  Its for my health you see.

Nice looking bow.  I'm no expert, but I know what I like.  It also looks like you have a nice supply of wood waiting in the wings.

Thereīs a bit of black locust, wild cherry and some yew branches in the back.

You certainly don't have anything to apologize for with that bow Indiaman.  But I know what you mean about comparing our work to some of what you see on this site - it can be pretty intimidating at times!    I think if I only saw bows created by the Masters, I would give up before I started!  I hope to learn from other people's work, try to make each of my bows a little better than the last, and maybe some day help some other newbie get started.  

I especially like your horn tips.  Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful bow. I especially like the contrast's in the woods and the horn toips show lots of skill. The tiller looks right on. Well done.
