Black Locust growth ring...
« on: December 10, 2007, 06:45:08 pm »
I have a black locust stave and was curious as to whether or not the sapwood should be shaved off to expose the heartwood growth ring for the back of the bow; or should the sapwood be left intact for the back of the bow?  :-\

I'm new but everybody says to remove the sapwood and that is what I did on my 2 black locust bows.  The books all indicate this must be done.

Thanks Rich and George.   ;) I figured I'd work it down just like a piece of osage, but wasn't sure.  I don't want to reck it too much!!
