It's all over up here. I'm waiting till next spring to cut this one I found, 5" diameter. About a 12" gently bend with no branches. I wanna try and get some nice reflexed staves from it.

About 10 years ago we had a major fire on our farm, burned quite a few acres of hardwood. Since then I've noticed some new growth hhb that I hadn't seen before. Most of it in clumps. I'm keeping my eye on it, so far the largest trunks are only about 2-3" thick and maybe 10' tall.

At those specs you might be able to narrow and taper the last few to several inches of the working limb before the lever....I think you'll still have enough meat if tempered, and it'll get some mass off and will also look a lil better aesthetically ....but your starting out right with a lil more width than you'll need ;)

Still chipping away. Got it floor tillered and now I have to find a long string. Para chord will work? We'll see. It's still got a little deist but I don't think it'll hurt. Very minimal. Once I get it tillered more gonna shape the levers and narrow everything. It's about 1 7/8" wide now. Going for 1 3/4". I haven't tempered since rough out and still very springy. This thing should be a rocket. Ill post pix later when I get a chance

So here it is so far. Just tempered it last night. I know I have to work the ends near the levers more. Suggestions help is appreciated. It's 1 3/4" wide. Getting pretty thin. Critisism always accepted

I have to figure out what to use as a short string. The para chord stretches. Nylon rope?

Artificial sinew, or Pro Line fishing line, which is pretty much fast flight string.  Or go to Three Rivers, and get some bow string there.

Your outer portion of the working section is looking a little stiff to me.  Try to get the most out of the working section to achieve lowest stress on the wood.  Go slow because not much removal is needed to get a little bend :)

I agree with Matt. To me it looks like most the bend is right after the fades.

Yeah that's what I see too. Just gotta find a short string to get it to brace and then start tillering again
