Tree ID: Elm?

So I finally cut down the tree in the front yard since the PUD had the wires down, and I just want to see if my first guess was right.

The tree does have spots of rot (part of why it needed to come down), but the rings look nice and I know from a branch that fell off that it's good and dense.

The bark is mangled due to the dozens of woodpeckers we get around here, but I'm hoping it's still intact enough to give a species with the leaves on top.

Wait a minute...


What the heck is this vine maple thing doing out here  ??? ??? ???

It's one of the bows I'm debating posting next and the one I've been shooting the most recently.

Alright, thanks guys. It looks like I can get about forty staves from this tree if I'm lazy and make em really big, but I'll probably get closer to fifty since I'm overconfident with my wedges  >:D

Yeah, it's elm but man look at the growth rings on that thing.  You live in a swamp?
