« on: October 09, 2013, 03:40:48 pm »
Was talking to a compound guy the other day and he told me fast arrows were more apt to bounce off a fabric target butt.wondering what you guys think?

Are the fast arrows also super light?

I watched a hunting show the other day where a guy shot a deer in the elbow/leg bone with a mechanical broadhead tipped carbon arrow probably going around 300 fps.  The arrow bounced off of the deer.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

There heavy 60grain,I respect the guy I was talking to ,he can put 3 in a pieplate at 1000yards with his rifle and 3 in tea cup at 70yards with his compound ,I've seen it for my own eyes!

He's right.
A light arrow has less penetrating power than a heavy slow arrow.
Think of it like this.
A VW beetle hits a brick wall at 70 mph. The beetle gets crushed.
The same beetle filled with lead anything to make it heavier. Will smash through the wall.

60 grains or 600 grains?  60 grains would be some pretty light arrows.

In my opinion. You need heavier arrows my friend. At least 10grns. Per pound of draw weight.

I seen my arrows bounce of the ground, rocks, tree's even the payment once. After they went throught the bucks.
Even at 300 grains at 65#'s at sharp head wont' bonce off a deer. Might not get to good pentration but it won't bonce off.

::) Something doesn't add up. A 600 grain arrow shot from a 65# bow shouldn't be bouncing off of anything.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.
