NEW hickory bow, aka stone chunker

here's a pignut hickory bow i wrapped up the other day. its 60inches, and 80lbs @ 26.
i have been shooting 75ish pounds for a while so i figured i wanted an 80. i am snap shooter so its not so drastic of an increase.

i used a home made black walnut stain for the base coat and gave it a reddish tinge with minwax polyshades "bombay saphire"  i really like the color it made. i would say overall, i am very pleased with this bow.

i used some walnut heartwood to make the tip overlays. and the string is 18 strands of  b-50, hand twisted (no jig) with self trapped muskrat fur silencers

and for accuracy, it puts 'em where ya point 'em.   my first shot, i stepped just out the door and at 20 yards, whacked a paper cup with a judo!

here it is drawn, since i snap shoot i didnt want to attempt holding it full on for fear of injuring myself..lol but its close, i would say i have about 3 more inches until release.

Very nice, I like the looks of a smoothbark hickory bow, with the muscled look of the wood.  Great result, no set for a heavy bow like that.  Did you have a little reflex in it to start with?  The first braced shot looks like the inner limbs are a little stiff, but your full draw and the last one looks smoother.

My elbow's hurting just thinking about 80lb draw.

thanks guys, it started off with the slightelst amount of reflex but lost that in short order, so i heated the limbs its gave it some reflex but after shooting it in, it all evened out, i suppose i cant complain.

  That's a nice looking bow Ryan.But if you can't hold it at full draw,why not lighten it up some?It will take stress off the limbs and reduce set.You can still shoot it fast. ???

very nice bow looks great heaviest bow ive made was 75# i think. first time i went to shoot i could only get about a dozen arrows and i was pooped!  ;D the more i shot it the better i liked it and ended up using it this fall for turkey and deer. again sweet bow! -whitewood
