I know I'm not down to one ring in the pictures but  I will be ,when I am sure it is safe to continue without backing ;)

You have nothing to worry about. The last yew bow I made has a ton of streaks and pin knots.
Even had some sapwood rot on the edge of the bottom limb... Shoots great and true.

There is no garanteed answer. If in doubt, stick some rawhide over it.
Looks to me like you are trying to chase a ring like it Osage.... it ain't... it's YEW!
IMO one of the best tools is a slightly blunt fine rasp or b'stard file... used held lightly ACROSS the grain. The crumbly white ring which I think looks like chicken meat will sort of tear and crumble away leaving the slightly yellower layer beneath showing true. Carefull use of a scraper or file gets off the remainder. It slow work, which I do in stages as the bow progresses.
Looks like you are doing a good job, but the pob' in the first 2 pics is you end up with a violation going straight across. The last pic looks better as it is more feathered, but we can't see how thick that sap is...
Good look... trust your gut..

@Pinecone... wow that's pretty :)

Thanks guys ;) the sap wood is a tad thicker on one side vs the other I featured an island on the bigger of the knots and the straight away line is just to show the ring... I just glued on tips so wish me luck and thanks a bunch for the help!!!

IMO, pick out any black manky stuff with a needle file ground to a fine chisel point (or similar tool). If the knok can be waggled like a loose tooth take it out, trying to leave the parent wood sound. E.G better to push it out than drill it.
Clean away any manky stuff as it will just collapse and cause a pinch.
Fill with a wooden peg from the same yew if possible or yew dust epoxy mix or CA and dust if you prefer.
If the knot has jus tabout fallen off the edge of the bow, it may be best to just leave it, and avoid disturbing the grain.
Soooo.
Top pic, looks fairly clean, I'd flood with low viscosty CA, probably leave it...
Bottom pic, I'd pick at the black stuff and see if the knot loosens... if it comes out, plug, if it doesn't pack round the gap where the black stuff has come out with dust/epoxy mix

That's coming right along!  I haven't touched my piece of that for months.  I wouldn't let the part about it being gifted worry you.  That's pretty trivial compared to the fact that it's over 90 yrs old , 50 to 60 rpi and quite possibly harvested by Earl Ulrich, an archery legend in his own right.  All in all, its a once in a lifetime stave so don't even worry about blowing it up, because it was a gift.  Does that help take the pressure off ol Buddy? >:D. Lol!  Josh
