Riser question
« on: September 25, 2013, 01:49:40 pm »
I've been reading on here about how hard it is to glue a riser on. I've also been reading about belly lams and backing with hickory strips. Would somebody try to explain to me why the one joint would fail and another(which probably bends more) would last?
Thanks
Don

Don, it is usually that the bow bends some in the handle area. If you start off thick and reduce the limbs the handle area won't bend and the riser will stay on.
You can use multi layers of thin wood to make your riser and it should "give" enough so the riser won't pop off. Same with hickory backings, they bend with the limb.
