Tiller help?

So what do u think about my tiller? The left limb looks a little stuff at the very end. Pulling 55# @ 30" only took it there 2 or 3 times. The pic is full draw.

There is a lot of pin knots

To judge tiller we need to see a picture of the width profile of the back.
First glance says it's bending too much around the handle.

How do I make the grip section stiffer?

By making the tips work more. You can't make it 'stiffer', but you can get the portions of the limbs which aren't doing any work participating. Get the outer half of both limbs working more.

Well... strictly speaking you could flatten a section of the bellyand glue on a thin belly lamination, but it's prob not worth doing, and where it blends in to the rest of the limb there would be a danger of creating a weak spot.

You could try and glue on a lam in the grip, but in my experience, a bow already bending in the handle is going to pop off a riser every time. Ask me how I know this!

No!... not a 'riser' a VERY thin belly lam going along for about 1/3 the length of the bow, so it all still flexes.

So I just need to thin the outta limbs and that'll take stress off the handle area?

Looks good but..l leaving a drawn bow for that long while you take a pic is not good.
Think about using a rope and pulley.

That's what it was. I have a pulley on the bottom of the tree with a rope long enough to pull and snap a pic. I was using it to exercise the bow. It's only been to full draw like 4 times. I'm gonna sand the ends to get em bending a bit more like was said before. Then I have to shap nocks and statics. I'm thinking of adding small grumleys. I just like the way the brush nock looks. I have two thin underlays on now. Thinking of building it up a bit for them.


Also if the ends are static I don't have to worry about violating a pin knot about 2" from tip?

Your pin knot should be ok that close to the tip.
As I said before though a picture of the width profile will allow people to help with the tiller.

The correct bend for a bow is dictated by the width taper.
Width taper will dictate how the thickness tapers (or doesn't)
The thickness taper will dictate what the bend should look like.

If all these things aren't correct it's easy to end up with a slow, shocky bow

So the whole bow is mostly 1 1/16" except where I traveled around pin knots. The pic of the tip is before I narrowed it more. Just a reference for the knot on it. It also has a bit of snake at the one end. But everything lines up good. Thanks again -Bruce
