How much string is there in a 1/4 lb roll? For a 40-50 lb bow how many strings would you get, approx.
Thanks

I've made 12 strings ranging from 5"2" to 6'9" and 14 strand to 18 strand have definitely not used half the spool.

Depending on length of string of course, with 14-18 strand strings, you could easily get 30-40 strings out of a 1/4# spool. Maybe even more. I've never counted, but a spool goes a long way. At $10/spool, that's very cheap strings!

The price of strings is probably the least of any part of primitive archery!

Anything up to 45# I use 10 strands b-50. Anything up to 50# I use 12 strands. I don't shoot anything over 50# and I have made countless strings from two spools of b-50 I bought 3 or four years ago, and they still have 4-5 more strings left in them.

If I could get myself to stop using my b-50 for everything from sewing leather projects to tying up packages, I might eke a few more bowstrings out of a spool.  Nonetheless, I think the large spools are a great buy....lotsa strings for not a lot of money.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

It's not so much the cost of the strings that makes me make my own, it's the freedom to make one a like the looks of. A string made of tan b-50 with brown serving just LOOKS better on a all wood longbow than a black on black one.and when I make a green stained hickory reflex deflex bow a light green string with dark green serving is what it needs....
