so i went to work on an ERC stave, and was no sooner through the sapwood than i realized i seemed
not
to be through the sapwood
i got down to the heartwood, but there's streaks of white sapwood in the purple heartwood. is this normal?

Yes, that's normal. I assume that you are either sinew backing or hard backing this stave? Erc heartwood is nearly worthless in tension. Josh
