Yep, Austin is not my favorite place.
Jack and his dad were back today. We didn't make quite as much progress as last time, partly because we did the heat bending and could not go on to tillering; and partly because I took him out to the lease, we grabbed trail cam photos, and shot bows and guns. Didn't get very many pictures of the process and missed the gun shooting entirely.
First, Jack took the bow to where we had a nice even taper and a good floor tiller bend.
Then we moved over to the heat bending spot and straightened the bow up. It took 3 heatings.
Then at the lease he shot my osage shorty that I hunted (poorly) with last season.
He shoots it well.
When we got back home Jack's dad took a picture of the 2 of us and the bow at its current state.
It's nice and straight, the string goes through the handle and each limb has a touch of reflex in the middle. Should work out well.
