bowstring- no center serving
« on: August 31, 2013, 10:50:18 am »
just wondering how many of y'all use a string with no center serving ?
I realize that the center serving helps with durability but I like the looks of this particular unserved string
on a hickory scalloped bow that I just finished up.

I like a tight center serving and use it on most all of my strings although I have a couple bows stung without. I consider the serving the finishing touch on my strings.
I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

I started doing it out of laziness . . . just didn't feel like putting one on a string and found out that I got by fine.  In theory you should get a dash more arrow speed without one.

U could wrap a little 1" piece that u put the arrow on. That way it saves durability and u can have less strings in your string making it faster

don't use it, sir. Just plain old strings, also big knocks that will NOT keep the arrow on the string either.

I shoot 3under so it helps with a serving that keeps the nocks snugly.
The serving also helps with consistancy, specially with flemish strings as they have a way of not being truly round.
So yes i serve my strings.

I did it both ways but perfer serving. Only because I wax my sering and my fingers.

HOWARD HILL DID THIS he also used power or a rasine ball like base ball pitchers. I also use this before. No serveing works really good with power.

Both really helps out with releaseing and tighter groups.

I use linen and definitely serve for durability and seems to give a cleaner release. I usually have to play with the diameter of the serving to get proper knock fit also.
