Osage?
« on: August 17, 2013, 02:14:47 am »
Is osage ever a yellow color? I got some from the town barn and the small pieces were bright orange, some of the larger pieces were a yellow color almost. Any ideas?

Yes, Osage is often yellow. Sometimes yellow with orange streaks in it. I think it may be a soil/climate thing.

Yes it's almost always yellow when you work it but over years the wood gets darker as exposed to sunlight
I like osage

My osage in Mississippi is yellow, if you let it set for a little while it turns darker on the outside, as soon as you cut/file it it's yellow again.
I have dead osage ( 15 years dead) on my place , yellow on the inside , dark on the outside.
I bought a dry (seasoned) osage stave from Arkansas and it was the same color inside the wood as it was on the outside
