Is red maple a decent bow wood

Will red maple make a decent self bow? I know not all maples are created equal so I figured I would check with the pros before I cut.

I don't know if this helps any but I think it's considered a soft maple it's not as dense as sugar maple but you may already know this.

I tried to make a maple bow from a soft maple board with some runout and it blew up. But that was a board.
I think it will make a decent bow wood... if you treat it right.

Actually i'm not even positive its a red maple! ;D I googled it and the leaves seemed to match.

Poor bow wood will always usually work if you go long and wide enough...but it might be a pain to hunt in the brush with...I've made kids bows out of red maple...works fine for that...but I wouldn't cut it for hunting bows....you must have better woods available than that.....sugar maple/hard maple is another story tho
