shavings and kindling

Thought I was making a bow today, turned out all I got was shavings and kindling.
Gotta a laugh about it, good therapy.  :laugh: :laugh:

Funny, my wife just called me in for dinner and I brought in the bow I'm working on for her to look at.  I told her that it would probably be fire wood soon as I'm sure it's gonna break.  She reminded me that I say that about most if not all of them.  She's right, but this one has that feel to it.  ERC board with good grain....except for one little spot.  I'm on a pretty long win streak and I'm due.  Your post was perfect timing.  At least you got it out of the way, mine's yet to happen....maybe tonight... :)

I feel your pain Greg.  I put a week into a sister stave to that elm that I sent you and it busted all to pieces.... Hope you have better luck with your half!

Greg................ I really appreciate seeing a failure once in a while.  Some bowers make it look like it never happens.  But we know better  :-[   :embarassed:

Lots of flaws, dips, dives and knots on the limb that snapped Pat. Not that I can't break perfect wood too. :)
Just get out there and break yours Slim, make me feel better bud.

I'd still far rather be shaving away on a stave doomed to fail, than spend my time researching what accessories I am going to bolt on to a wheelie bow!   >:D

Hmmmm? Maybe buckthorn can be weak in tension at times(maybe due to high crowned gnarly spots)...I've had one let loose in tension as well at a funky raised swirly high crowned spot
